How to take your measurements for bondage gear and collars

You're ordering custom kink gear that's made to measure just for you, make sure you get those measurements on point! Whether it's a harness, collar, or cuffs, here's a quick guide on how to take your measurements for BDSM bondage gear.

Pro tip: have a friend take your measurements for better accuracy.

Let's quickly review how to measure your body for jewelry, bondage gear, clothes, or whatever else you might need. These measurements will come in handy whenever you're shopping online. Before you get started:

  • Make sure your measuring tape doesn't stretch
  • Keep the tape level around your body - parallel to the floor
  • Keep it close to your skin, but don't squish it down or pull it too tight
  • Measure both wrists, ankles, legs, etc. to ensure accurate measurements. (Sometimes they don't match!)

Neck: Measure around the part of your neck where you want the collar to lay. If you want it tight at the center of your neck, measure it there. If it's a looser style that you want to lay at your collar bone, or lower, measure where the collar will lay across the back of your neck and down to where it will hang.

Bust: Measure around the widest part of your breasts, across the line of your nipples.

Chest: Measure directly under your breasts/pecs, as high up as possible (where the band of a bra would rest).

Waist: Measure at it's narrowest point, usually just above your belly button.

Hips: Measure around the widest part of the hipbones/your booty.

Most of our gear is made to adjust slightly, when this is the case, we ask for your actual measurement. Your custom gear will be made to adjust 1.5"-2" larger than your measurement.

For locking collars and day collars that don't adjust, we request your desired finished length and we'll make it to the exact size you request.

The charts included here show the correct placement of the measuring tape for each measurement. This is important! Knowing where your natural waist is, or measuring at the largest part of your hips, or bust, will be essential when ordering custom made-to-measure harnesses, garters, thigh cuffs, etc.

Wrist: Measure the narrowest point of your wrist, where you would like your cuffs or bracelet to sit.

Collar to Waist: Measure from where your collar would sit to the narrowest part of your torso, just above the belly button.

Thighs: Measure around the fullest part of the upper leg while standing. (See why you need a friend to keep it accurate now?)

Ankles: Measure around the base of your ankle, where you would like your cuffs to sit.

Knees: Measure just above the knee.

Calves: Measure around the fullest part of your calf.

Upper Arm: Measure above your elbows, around the fullest part.

How to measure for BDSM bondage gear

Taking your measurements for bondage collars and gear is no different from measuring for clothing or jewelry. But there are a few things to consider when ordering kink gear. Even more so when ordering from Restrained Grace, because all of our pieces are made to measure.

Most BDSM gear companies have standard sizes like small, medium, large, etc. I personally feel like this is too ambiguous, and since our products are mostly made to order anyhow, we'd rather make them to fit your body.

Adjustable collars: Provide your exact neck measurement. The size you choose will be the smallest option, and it will adjust 2" larger in 1/2" increments.

Non-adjustable collars: Choose the exact length you would like this collar to be. We will not add any length.

Adjustable cuffs: Provide your exact wrist measurement. The size you choose will be the smallest option, and your cuffs will adjust 2" larger in 1/2" increments.

Harnesses: Provide your exact measurements. The buckled straps will adjust 2" at the neck, and 3" at the waist. 1.5" in any other spots.

Day collars: Choose the exact length you'd like this collar to be.

Necklaces: Choose the exact length you'd like this collar to be.
