Funishment

Funishment

Our Definition

a portmanteau of “fun” and “punishment” used to refer to consequences given for the sake of mutual enjoyment rather than as a form of discipline meant to discourage a behavior.

Common Practices

Everyone is different! You'll see this repeated throughout our website and glossary. Common funishment practices include, but certainly aren't limited to:
  • Routines, or a language of call and response developed between partners over time.
  • Communicating early on that all parties understand the nature of play that is desired.

Oscar often spanks their partner, Pedro in response to Pedro rolling his eyes. Oscar knows that Pedro enjoys being spanked and the goal is not to discourage future instances of eye rolling.

Real Life Examples

We're gathering short anecdotes on this topic from experienced kinksters!
If you'd like to be quoted in our glossary, please email us a single paragraph describing the practices you'd like to share, along with whatever name you'd like to be credited with.
If your definition differs from ours, tell us how and why! We want to illustrate as many sides of kink as we can to both normalize kink and the diversity within it.
