Our Definition

The concept of a submissive providing care and structure for themself in the ways that a dominant partner might, in an effort to improve their self-worth, self-love, and overall standards. Often involves self-collaring.

Common Practices & Experiences

Everyone is different! You'll see this repeated throughout our website and glossary. Common practices and experiences involving self ownership include, but certainly aren't limited to:
  • Staying accountable to one’s goals through a list, journal, or app.
  • Reflecting on what kind of submissive one would like to be, and what one’s ideal dynamic would look like.
  • Taking initiative in furthering one’s goals
  • Being attentive to one’s own needs
  • Practicing self-care
  • Wearing a collar to represent self-ownership

Joy keeps a journal with daily checklists in order to stay accountable to their goals.

After a breakup with her longtime master, Sarina decided to be her own daddy to the fullest; wearing a collar to represent her commitment to herself and nurturing her inner submissive.

We want your take!

Help us improve the glossary! We're looking for:

  • Anecdotes for kinks in practice, tell us about a scene or an interaction that you feel best illustrates an entry
  • Suggestions for topics to add
  • Short stories to help illustrate each glossary entry - true or fictional stories that demonstrate a topic. (1 page, tops!)
  • Folks who disagree - tell us why we're wrong!

We want to illustrate as many sides of kink as we can to both normalize kink, sexuality, and the diversity within it all, and we can't do that alone!
