Soft Limits

Soft Limits

Our Definition

can refer to an activity which one does not wish to engage with except under specific circumstances with certain conditions attached, but for which they may still give informed consent.

Common Practices & Experiences

Everyone is different! You'll see this repeated throughout our website and glossary. Common practices involving soft limits include, but certainly aren't limited to
  • Typically soft limits are off the table for new dynamics.
  • Some soft limits are flexible within established dynamics with a great degree of trust.
  • Some people are willing to consent to a soft limit under specific physical conditions (i.e. “It would have to be done in my own home.” Or “ It would need to be done with a specific instrument of my choosing.” )

One of Orion’s soft limits is being blindfolded. They might only consider engaging with this type of play in a long term dynamic where trust had been established.

Yuri considers anal play a soft limit, and would only consider engaging with it as a top, for a partner who was experienced and would direct the play.
